A REAL Day in the Life of a Software Engineer

Here is a REAL look at a day in the life of a Software Engineer. Many other videos like this don’t begin to scratch the surface of what it’s really like – they’ll show you their catered food or ping pong tournaments but not what work is all about.

Due to COVID-19, I’m working from home. I work in Silicon Slopes normally right in the middle of busy Lehi, Utah. The majority of my team is located in San Fransisco so I’m an hour ahead. I’ve loved the opportunity working in tech during this time.

  1. Really like the honesty of what really goes on. Gives the full perspective of how things are done. I’m inspired by your productivity.

  2. It’s my first year in college and I’m going for CS major. Thank you for showing a more accurate day of what it’s like to be a dev rather than your fancy amenities and benefits.

  3. Damn this year will be my first bachelor year as a software engeneering student . I was so excited but i got disappointed after watching this video . The life of a software engineer us really boring and the same routine every day . You don’t even have time to take a break and enjoy life . 0 motivation 🙁

  4. Is it common to feel a lil confused about where to start when you first begin learning this stuff? I just finished my first year of a 2 year transfer program and I’m hoping everything will come together more by the time I get my bachelors lmao

  5. Just did my first line of code: "Hello world" in Python today. What are some of the best things I can learn now to get the right fundamentals, and what are the best places to self-learn while I’m waiting to get back into BYUI? I want to ultimately become a game developer. I downloaded CryEngine, Leadworks, Unreal engine, and Pixiel Game Maker on Steam.

  6. Is it a good thing to be a software engineer? How much free time do you have? Do you think being a software engineer ha s a good personal life/work life ratio?

  7. I wish it was narrated with your voice. It was hard to watch and eat chips at the same time. I had to constantly pause the video so I could have enough time to read the text.

  8. Hi, Are You Accepting Freelance Jobs? I have a Website I want built with a somewhat advanced search box. I’m looking around on fiverr and upwork, waiting for replies, can you do it?

  9. make a video how an M1 macbook performs for a software engineer, im a software test engineer and im williung to buy a M1 mac (i got a 2015 one) so that information will be really usefull!!

  10. I’m watching this to see what career I want to do. It’s so hard to decide who you want to be in life.

I love technology and I love how to ask questions and see how things work but I can’t decide if I should major in MIS or CS. CS I’m worried because there will be intensive math and CS courses, and I’m usually above average in math (not perfect but above average).

  11. Is there an available position for your coworkers job? I’d need a bigger crib, but we can empty my Walmart shopping cart I stole for my carrier.

  12. Thank you so much, I don’t know anything about what this career looks like and finally someone just gives an accurate day in the life
